Piazza XX Settembre, la principale piazza della città di Fano, dal Medioevo in avanti era chiamata Piazza Maggiore? Prende la denominazione di ’20 Settembre’ solo alla fine dell’Ottocento. La data ricorda quel giorno del 1870 quando l’artiglieria dell’esercito italiano guidata dal generale Raffaele Cadorna aprì una breccia nelle mura di Roma a pochi passi da Porta Pia, episodio che sancì l’annessione di Roma al Regno d’Italia.

Piazza XX Settembre, the main square of the city of Fano, used to be called Piazza Maggiore starting from the Middle Ages onwards? Today’s name is ‘September 20th’ and was only given at the end of the nineteenth century.
