Il basso di Stanley Clarke suona da ben 45 anni (il suo primo album “Children of forev

er” è del 1973). In “The message” si propone un’ottima fusione di jazz, funk e soul ; alcuni brani sono già stati presentati durante il tour europeo della band. Possiamo considerare questo album un tributo ai numerosi amici che Clarke ha perso: George Duke, Al Jarreau, Tom Petty, Prince, Larry Coryell e Leon Ndugu Chancler; a tutti loro è dedicato il brano “And ya know we’re missing you”. All’album collaborano anche Doug E. Fresh, rapper e beatboxer e il trombettista Mark Isham. “The message” è funky e melodico, contemporaneo e fresco con influenze multi-genere.
